Select the original material for preservation. The current reference core accepts files up to 1 MiB without changing their contents. Capture applications and dedicated hardware build on top of that foundation.

ENCRYPT
Separate access from storage.
The content is encrypted under a media secret. Publication funds use separate spending keys. Back up the media secret independently: it is what allows recovery after the original device disappears.
PRESERVE
Move beyond one point of control.
The product direction uses Litecoin as the default destination and Bitcoin as optional redundancy. A transport carries the encrypted records and reports publication progress. Sending data and confirming recoverability are different states.
RECOVER
Rebuild from the outside.
The reader retrieves published records, authenticates the chunks and reconstructs the file. A complete output must match the preserved original. The reference implementation reports missing pieces instead of exporting partial plaintext.
The secret is yours.
Keep it elsewhere.
In the current core, the same 32-byte media secret opens all objects encrypted with it. It is not a per-photo sharing key.
Recovery also needs the network, a suitable starting block height and accessible historical blocks. A provider can help supply those bytes; no provider can substitute for a lost secret.
